How to Send Email Drip Sequences Like ClickFunnels

We signed up for one free ClickFunnels challenge and Russell Brunson's team sent 50 emails about it in three weeks. We read every one and mapped the whole launch. Here is the structure, what each message is doing and the one place it leaks.

ClickFunnels does not run a newsletter. It runs a challenge funnel: a free five-day live event, the One Comma Club Challenge, that warms you up and sells a paid product, the Funnel Builder Certification. The offer opens in the middle of the event, not at the end. Fifty emails went out for this one free challenge. On the heaviest day, ten landed in a single inbox. Volume is not the mistake here. It is the strategy and every email has a job. This is how it works, email by email.

Watch the breakdown

The shape of the funnel

The sequence runs in four phases. The pressure builds from the first email to the last. By the final email there is nothing left to explain, only a clock.

1. The warmup. Ten days before the event: a confirmation that hands you a task, then one objection email per day. Almost no selling.

2. The daily engine. Every live day runs the same four beats: tease, live, replay, homework. This alone is most of the sequence.

3. The offer. Opens on Day 3, while you are still learning, then visibly grows as the deadline gets closer.

4. The close. A weekend sprint, a show-and-tell of results, then three deadline emails that collapse from a day to an hour.

Phase 1 · The warmup

Open a loop, do not pitch

The first stretch, before the event, does almost no selling. It builds curiosity and handles objections early.

The confirmation email lands the moment you register. Its hidden preview line, the grey text after the subject, reads "I need you to do something before we start." It gives you a task, not a thank you. A task is a small commitment. Once you have done one small thing you are more likely to do the next.

Then come three objection emails on three consecutive days, each aimed at a different reason you might not show up. "the REAL reason most people fail" handles the belief that you have already tried this and it did not work. "I recorded this for everyone freaking out about AI" handles the fear that what you are about to learn is already obsolete. "are you having second thoughts?" handles plain cold feet, by name, before the event has started.

They answer your doubt before you have finished forming it and they do it while nothing is for sale yet.

I need you to do something before we start.

Preview line of the confirmation email

Model this. The warmup has one job: get people emotionally bought in before anything is for sale. Write one email per objection, send them on separate days and use the preview line as a second headline. Most people ignore it. Your readers do not.

Phase 2 · The daily engine

Tease, live, replay, homework

This is the core mechanism and the reason the count is so high. Every single day of the event runs the same four-beat pattern.

Beat one, the tease, about two hours before the session: "[DAY 1] the one skill that 665,000 businesses need THIS year." Curiosity plus a specific number.

Beat two, the moment it starts: "DAY 1 IS LIVE! Get in here NOW," chased 22 minutes later by a second email from a team member, "you're missing it (Russell's live NOW)." They hit twice within half an hour because the live window is where the money gets made.

Beat three, right after: "Day 1 Replay + What's Coming Tomorrow." It catches the no-shows and teases the next day so you come back.

Beat four, the same evening: "Your Day 1 Homework (do this tonight)." This is the clever one. Homework makes you act. Once you have acted you are invested. That is the consistency principle doing the selling for them.

That block repeats across five days. A curiosity gap runs through the whole thing. Watch the preview lines march in order: "the Backdoor to your first $1,000 starts today," then "the Backdoor is being revealed right now," then "he just revealed the Backdoor and people are losing it," then "the Backdoor has been revealed. Did you catch it?" One open loop, stretched across four emails, so you have to keep opening.

If you're not in the room, you're missing it.

The 22-minute chaser on Day 1

Model this. One reminder is not a sequence. For every live session, send a tease before it, a live-now message the moment it starts, a chaser if the room is where you sell, a replay after it and a small homework task the same evening. The homework is what turns an attendee into a participant.

Phase 3 · The offer

Open it early, then make it bigger

The offer opens in the middle of the teaching, not at the end. "It's OFFICIAL (this is the most insane offer I've ever made)" lands on Day 3, announced during the live session and emailed the same evening.

The product is the Funnel Builder Certification. The headline item is lifetime access to ClickFunnels instead of paying $297 a month. The pitch does the arithmetic for you: $297 a month is $3,564 a year, so lifetime access reads as thousands saved every year, forever. They are anchoring against their own subscription price.

Then the offer visibly grows as the deadline approaches. "the offer just got even MORE insane (3 new bonuses)" on Day 4, then on the finale "Jaime Smith just gave away CF Pro Tools for LIFETIME," stacked live on camera. Growing the offer as the clock runs down is backwards from how most people sell. It works.

Preview line of the offer email

Model this. Do not wait for the last day to open the cart. Open it while you are still delivering value, anchor the price against a number the reader already knows and add something to the offer every day until it closes.

Phase 4 · The close

A sprint, a show-and-tell and a collapsing countdown

This is the part most people quit before. After the five live days comes a "Money by the Weekend" sprint with its own homework, then a live show-and-tell of results with named proof: "Dixie closed 3 clients in DMs, Bonnie landed a 12-month contract." Real names and real numbers make the outcome feel reachable. These are ClickFunnels' own claims, but that is exactly the point: proof does the selling.

The closer flips to identity. "Bonnie waited 3 years. Tina waited 7. How long will you wait?" That is no longer selling a product. It is selling the cost of staying the same.

Then the hard close, five days after the event ended. This is the tightest piece of the whole sequence. Three emails, collapsing: "[WARNING] this all goes away at 11:59 PM tonight," then "[8 HOURS] decision time," then "[1 HOUR] this is your FINAL warning." Each one is a smaller window than the last. The final email is four sentences long.

And it does not end. A few days after the final warning, a fresh cycle starts with the same shape and new dates. The sequence is not a campaign with an ending. It is a loop.

11:59 PM Pacific. No exceptions. No extensions.

Preview line of the final email

Model this. Curiosity gets people in, homework gets them invested, a deadline gets them to buy. Close with a countdown that shrinks, a day, then hours, then one hour. Make the last message the shortest one you send.

The one place the sequence leaks

The build is elite. But we registered with an email address. Every one of the 50 messages arrived in the same inbox. ClickFunnels may well text the people who hand over a phone number. We can only show the sequence we received, and the part we received was built to work through one inbox.

The specific problem is different from a normal drip. On 27 August, ten emails landed from the same sender in a single day, eight for the challenge and two for a separate ticket campaign running into the same inbox on its own deadline. At that volume you are no longer competing with other people's marketing. You are competing with yourself.

Now ask which messages had to be seen within the next 60 minutes: "Russell's live NOW," "this all goes away at 11:59 PM tonight" and the one literally titled "[1 HOUR] this is your FINAL warning." Those are the highest-stakes emails in the whole funnel. Email opens run around a third to 40 percent on a good day. Turn that around: for every ten people who registered, six or seven never opened the email telling them it had started. The message with a 60-minute shelf life is the one most likely still sitting unopened, buried under the nine other emails sent that day.

The fix is not to move the whole sequence. Most of it belongs in email: the teaching, the stories, the replays. Only four or five messages in the entire month actually expire. We are live, the replay comes down at midnight, one hour left. Those belong on a channel people check right away, with open rates north of 90 percent. For most of the world outside the US, that channel is WhatsApp.

The real reason almost nobody does this is not cost. WhatsApp marketing messages are templates that Meta approves in advance, so the five most urgent messages of your launch have to be written and submitted days before the event, in the week you are busiest. That is the work DripRaven takes off your plate: you describe the messages in plain English to ChatGPT or Claude, it writes them, submits the templates and has them ready for the live day. Keep the long teaching in email. Put the five messages that expire where being seen right now is the whole point.
